FAQ – Military & Veteran Therapy at the Mind/Body Institute
1. How is therapy different for military service members and veterans?
Military life brings a unique set of stressors — from combat exposure and moral injury to separation from family and challenges with reintegration. Our clinicians understand this culture and use trauma-informed methods that are respectful, effective, and grounded in real-world military experience.
2. What is EMDR, and how does it help with PTSD?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most effective treatments for PTSD and combat-related trauma. It helps your brain reprocess disturbing memories so they no longer trigger distress. You stay in control during the session and aren’t required to retell every detail of your trauma.
3. What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and is it safe?
KAP combines ketamine (administered in a controlled clinical setting) with therapy to help clients explore and process deep-rooted emotional patterns. It can be especially helpful for veterans struggling with treatment-resistant depression, emotional detachment, or complex trauma. Our team ensures every session is guided, safe, and personalized.
NOTE: The Headstrong Project does not cover the cost associated with KAP
4. Is therapy free if I’m active military or a veteran?
Yes — through our partnership with The Headstrong Project, therapy is available at no cost for qualifying veterans and active-duty military. This includes EMDR and other trauma-informed treatments. We’ll guide you through the simple eligibility process so you can focus on healing, not worrying about payment.
5. Is therapy confidential?
Absolutely. Your therapy is 100% confidential and is not shared with the military, VA, or your employer unless you give written consent. Our goal is to provide a safe, private space where you can explore your experiences freely, without judgment or fear of professional consequences.
